A) Installation - top

1) FILE UPLOAD

First you need to upload all theme files to wordpress theme directory (wp-content/themes). After that, you should also upload included plugin from the plugin directory into your wordpress plugin directory (wp-content/plugins)

2) FILE AND FOLDER PERMISSIONS

After you have uploaded all the files, you have to give them the correct permissions. This can be done using FTP client, such as Filezilla. Locate folder Scripts in themes directory and give it and all its subfolders/files Permission level of 755.

3) SET UP NEWS BLOCKS

Go to Theme Configuration page on your Wordpress Admin panel, then open "News Blocks" section. Follow the instructions given there. You will be required to select 8 categories to show separately on your pages news blocks. You will also have to create additional subcategories, that will hold all the featured posts for each category. You can use images provided at admin page and example page for extra directions.

example

You can create new categories in wordpress administration page - /wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=category , just remember to make them as subcategories for the required categories.

4) CREATE ARCHIVE PAGE

This theme has dedicated page template for your Post Archive. For this to work, you must go to wordpress page section (/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=page) and Add new page.

For this to work, you have to permalinks and htaccess url rewrite enabled! See Help

5) CREATE RSS CATALOG PAGE (optional, but recommended)

You have the option of creating RSS Catalog page, which will help your visitors to choose among all of your RSS feeds. See example.

RSS Catalog page has a built in configuration page, just see "Theme Configuration" -> "RSS Catalog" in your wp-admin. You will be required to create another page. Just follow the similar steps described in A-4 above.

B) Custom Menus - top

If you use version 3.0+ of WordPress, you can setup custom menus to use with our theme.

Go to Appearance > Menus. Give your menu a name and build it up using little widgets on the right. You can add pages, categories or custom URLs. Remember to add Custom URL to you first page!

Now simply select the theme location for your newly created menus using a widget on the left. You have only one option - Top Menu. Afterwards, click "Save".

If you have WP version that is older than 3.0, we recommend, that you upgrade it, because otherwise you will be given a static Top Menu, that you will have to edit manually using text editor. The Menu HTML Code is located in file top.php.

As you may have probably noticed, after installing the theme, your right sidebar is empty. We have provided you with an opportunity to completely customizing it to your liking with the use of wordpress Widgets

Go to Appearance > Widgets. You can drag and drop widgets in each of 3 positions for either single post and home page. See Widget Help for more information.

D) Uploading Logo, editing Social Share Icons and Footer - top

This theme comes with built in configuration page, that allows you to easily change pages Logo, add Social Share Icon Links and Manage Footer content. Just see Theme Configuration page on your wp-admin. See further explanations on the page.

E) Managing banners - top

We have provided you with a LOT of banner spaces, which will surely help you monetize your site. You can add unlimited amount of banner to your right sidebar using wordpress widgets (See Custom 250x250 ad widget, thats already installed for you).

The rest of the banners can be managed using administration page on Theme Configuration > Banner Manager. Just edit each of the banner positions and click "Submit" button at the bottom of the page. We have already provided you with example banner code. All you have to do is change the href a tags href value (site URL you are promoting) and img tags src value (banner image URL).

F) Post Thumbnails - top

Gadgetine Theme uses a lot of different sized post thumbnails that help your site look very professional. It would be a complete nightmare if you had to manually resize and upload each of those thumbnails, so we have provided you with an easier way.

This theme uses auto image resizer and cropper. All you have to do, to add a thumbnail to your post is:

Thumbnails are used in many different places throughout all the theme. Pictures used for category featured posts are very big (350x200px), so you might consider using different source picture for this thumbnail. To set different source images for ordinary and the big thumbnails, do as follows:

If you add "big_image" to a featured post, you also have to add ordinary image. You can do this by using both worpdress thumbnail system and our method.

See images for extra explanation

Special content section

If no other thumbnail is specified, theme will try to grab the first picture of the post. If the picture is stored in your wp-content directory and uploaded via wordpress media manager, thumbnail will be generated from this picture.

G) Managing Post Categories and News Blocks - top

Your theme has 6 specialized news blocks and one general news block (See Installation). Every new post you add will show up on most recent news block, but it takes special actions to put a post in any other block.

If, for example, you write a post about Computer hardware, you will want to add that post to computer column of your website. To do this just check that category on post edit/create page in your wordpress administration page. If every thing is installed correctly, your post will show up in that category.

If you think that this post is very important for your page, you can also check it as Featured for that category. Note that while creating a featured post for that category, you still have to check the general category too. Example, the afore mentioned post on Computer hardware, should have categories "Computers" and "Computers Featured".

The same goes for adding a post to "Top Stories" or "Video" category.

H) Adding Labels to Posts - top

This theme gives you option of adding labels to posts. You can choose any of these 3 labels - video, photo or review. This will add a label next to posts name, which will help draw users attention to them.

To add a label to post just follow these 3 steps:

The process is similar to adding thumbnails.

I) Css Files - top

All of Gadgetine CSS file is located within theme direcrory. File named Style.css holds all stylsheet information regarding this theme. Edit with caution!

J) Use of Read More tag in Writing Posts - top

It is very important that you place a "read more" tag in your every post, otherwise the page will not display correctly!. You should also try not to make the part of post, that is before "read more" tag too long. See Wordpress Help for more information.

You can easily add links to bottom of pages footer. This can be usefull when creating SEO backlinks to other sites etc. Just go to wordpress Links section and any link. Give the link category called exactly "Footer Links" and you're done!

To set up a gallery, create a new page and choose Gallery template.

Then choose on the left menu Gallery >> Add New. Then upload pictures you wish to add to the gallery. You only need to upload pictures and the will be stored in the respective gallery automatically! Then set the Featured Image, which will be the title image of the gallery, and save it. If you wish to add description under pictures, you can write them in the field of the post, but it is optional. Do not add short url of the gallery in your post!!! Suggested that the galleries page permalink name is not gallery, but for example - "photo-gallery" .

Once again, thank you so much for purchasing this theme. As I said at the beginning, I'd be glad to help you if you have any questions relating to this theme. No guarantees, but I'll do my best to assist. If you have a more general question relating to the themes on ThemeForest, you might consider visiting the forums and asking your question in the "Item Discussion" section.
